Dirty or Not Dirty

Welcome to one of the latest pageant controversies!

Now, it is rumored that a young lady (a teen) did a routine to the song "Low" by Flo Rida... and some of the mothers have found this to be offensive, some not. So in the spirit of fairness, I looked up the lyrics myself:

*********
[Chorus:]
Shawty had them Apple Bottom Jeans [Jeans]
Boots with the fur [With the fur]
The whole club was lookin at her
She hit the flo [She hit the flo]
Next thing you know
Shawty got low low low low low low low low

Them baggy sweat pants
And the Reeboks with the straps [With the straps]
She turned around and gave that big booty a smack [Ayy]
She hit the flo [She hit the flo]
Next thing you know
Shawty got low low low low low low low low

[Verse 1:]
I ain't never seen nuthin that'll make me go,
This crazy all night spendin my dough
Had a million dollar vibe and a bottle to go
Dem birthday cakes, they stole the show
So sexual, she was flexible
Professional, drinkin X and ooo
Hold up wait a minute, do I see what I think I
Whoa
Did I think I seen shorty get low
Ain't the same when it's up that close
Make it rain, I'm makin it snow
Work the pole, I got the bank roll
Imma say that I prefer them no clothes
I'm into that, I love women exposed
She threw it back at me, I gave her more
Cash ain't a problem, I know where it goes

She had them

[Chorus:] (See words above)

[Verse 2:]
Hey
Shawty what I gotta do to get you home
My jeans full of gwap
And they ready for Shones
Cadillacs Maybachs for the sexy grown
Patrone on the rocks that'll make you moan

One stack (come on)
Two stacks (come on)
Three stacks (come on, now that's three grand)
[ Low lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
What you think I'm playin baby girl
I'm the man, I'll bend the rubber bands

That's what I told her, her legs on my shoulder
I knew it was ova, that Henny and Cola
Got me like a Soldier
She ready for Rover, I couldn't control her
So lucky oo me, I was just like a clover
Shorty was hot like a toaster
Sorry but I had to fold her,
Like a pornography poster
She showed her

[Chorus:] (See words above)

[Verse 3:]
Whoa
Shawty
Yea she was worth the money
Lil mama took my cash,
And I ain't want it back,
The way she bit that rag,
Got her them paper stacks,
Tattoo Above her crack,
I had to handle that,

I was on it, sexy woman, let me shownin
They be want it two in the mornin
I'm zonin in them rosay bottles foamin
She wouldn't stop, made it drop
Shorty did that pop and lock,
Had to break her off that gwap
Gah it was fly just like my glock

[Chorus:] (See words above)

Now, if you do a little digging on urbandictionary.com some of the phrases after translation are not very, er, "clean." (i.e. relative context of gwap - I won't spoil it for you but look it up...)

The question is, should the parents have allowed this? I personally don't think so, and considering I must be pretty liberal since I am one of those Moms that slaps fake eyelashes and a Dolly Parton wig on her kid from time to time... but even I draw the line.

In the forum discussions, several mothers stated that the mothers who posted said those of us more, uh, conservative folks were "over-reacting" to the song...

"It's a cute dance song"
"Well, HER parents didn't have an issue"
"THOSE AREN'T the lyrics"

Apparently, if you don't understand the lyrics, they must be okay.

Footnote - I happen to have this song on my ipod, but my kids? NO.

**************

On another note. I watched Miss America Saturday night. I am so going to have to post on THAT.

Haaa...

I bet anything they didn't understand the song.

Shoot, I didn't understand the song, but I got the gist...

Oh, ugh! I agree. I don't think it was a good idea at all. Any idea what her routine was like? did it involve the "So sexual, she was flexible" part?
This is one of the reasons I won't let Piko join cheerleading or any other kind of dance class besides ballett. I do not need to se my 6 year old daughter doing butt pops while the other parents laugh and say "how cute!' NO! NOT CUTE!!! INAPROPRIATE!!

Man, those gwapping parents that won't gwapping take a gwapping stand just irritate the gwap out of me!

That might just be my new favorite word

I don't see why they are getting all up im arms. The song is not out and put dirty. It is filled with inuendo that is suggestive but that's it.

There are some songs that I really like the music but the lyrics...uh, I don't want to hear my daughter absentmindedly singing "those songs" while out in public. You CAN find remixes or really great instramentals.

I remixed one song that I totally loved for Snow White's OOC - Wizard of Oz by ToyBox. There was some questionable context that went straight over her head but still, I wanted it taken out. It turned out super cute.

Yes, parents can do what they wish with their own children. When they step over a line they should also expect a bit of critisizm. I can take the heat for putting my daughter in pageants because I know she enjoys it. If other don't get it I am not going to flogg them. he.he.he.

Dude.

Even *I* know that Apple Bottom jeans are more than a brand.

Then again, when I ran around singing "Pour some sugar on me" as a teenager, I'd love to think that my parents didn't "get" the lyrics...

If the mother knew the meaning of some of these terms in that song, she would have thought twice. That is just like that song "Crank That Superman", some people may not understand the lyrics. But he is basically saying he's releasing on a woman's back and she falls asleep and the sheets stick to her back, thus making a cape like superman!!!

Parents need to do more research on these songs before they use them.
